How Maison Matine elevates its brand image with Wool Envelopes

Maison Matine is a fragrance brand created by a new generation of committed French perfumers. The brand’s unique positioning and strong environmental commitment shine through in everything they do – from product design to packaging.

Last year, Maison Matine decided to start using Wool Envelopes to ship its fragrances to ecommerce customers. We spoke with Marie Kellou, the Creative Director and co-founder of Maison Matine, about this decision and how Wool Envelopes elevate its brand image.

Maison Matine, a committed brand

All products developed by Maison Matine are created and manufactured in France. Their fragrances are made from organic wheat alcohol and come with a 100% recyclable cap. This approach is also reflected in the choice of packaging, made from recycled, recyclable, cellophane-free cardboard.

Not too long ago, Maison Matine’s team realised their ecommerce packaging could be improved – they were using plastic bubble envelopes or kraft boxes which did not fully meet the high standards set by the brand's founders.

"We strive to produce as little waste as possible and to use as little plastic as possible. That’s why the conventional bubble wrap envelopes we used previously were not a great fit – and on the other hand, cardboard boxes were not suitable due to the size, as there was often a lot of empty space being shipped with our products. This didn't fit with our image or brand values," said Marie from Maison Matine.

Marie discovered Woola at the LuxePack trade show in Paris in June 2023.

"I was first won over by Woola's values and commitment to sustainability. But the products are also very different from what we usually see on the market, and the design was something that caught my eye. So we discussed it internally and decided to trust Woola for the ecommerce side of things," continues Marie.

Protecting products and matching brand image

The packaging developed by Woola, in particular the Wool Envelopes, offer several advantages for Maison Matine. 

"We chose Wool Envelopes to elevate our brand image related to sustainability and enhance the customer experience. The packaging used in ecommerce is the first contact customers have with the Maison Matine brand. In fact, as soon as they receive our products in Wool Envelopes, they see our commitment to eco-responsibility."

The quality of Wool Envelopes is also praised by Maison Matine, as the materials used are strong and durable. 

Last but not least, Wool Envelopes eliminate the problem of shipping space that happens with cardboard boxes.

What do Maison Matine’s customers think?

As Maison Matine switched to Woola packaging at the end of last year, It's still a little early to say what’s the verdict of Maison Matine’s customers on the new ecommerce packaging. But the first few reactions have been positive. In their own words:

“All the packaging was very good!“

“I think it's very good packaging. It protects well and I kept it to use for a future shipment. So reusable!“

“I left it with my parents who also wanted to use it again to send other little things back because we thought it looked nice. I don't know if it really protects as well as the bubble wraps but it seemed and the samples arrived without damage :)”
